Fear Itself

If you like anthology series and Tales from the Crypt like things, Fear Itself is the thing for you. It's a great NBC anthology show, similar to Masters of Horror, but more toned down.

Ronny Yu (Bride of Chucky) and John Landes (An American Werewolf In London) both direct two episodes in it.

I was really disappointed with the series overall. I had such high hopes for it. Though, I was very upset that they didn't air all 13 episodes. I was really looking forward to seeing John Dahl's episode because I absolutely loved his movie, The Last Seduction. The best of the erotic thrillers.

But, Larry Fessenden sure didn't let me down. I was conflicted about Wendigo because the ending was confusing. But "Skin and Bones" was pure genius. It's literally the best horror anything I've seen since Open Water, 5 years ago! And it's only 45 minutes long. That alone makes this DVD a must-buy. But, I'm holding off because I think it's way overpriced. Currently. I'm going to rent the unseen episodes from Netflix. First.

Ronny Yu also did a really good episode, "Family Man." Though I thought the ending was too predictable and the dinner table scene should have been longer. Other than that, this was a very wasted opportunity.

I was kind of interested in John Landis's one even though I hear people think that's the worst. "In Sickness and in Health" I think.

I'm not surprised. They promoted it more online than anywhere else. I think YouTube had a bunch of silly, fluffy interview clips with the actors. But it only ran 8 episodes and NBC pulled it off the air.

Which is a bit of a shame because the best one was the last one that they aired.

And you're right. But that's because he went off to make mostly action movies after Bride of Chucky.

I think his last Horror movie was Freddy vs. Jason in 2003. He also directed Fearless which is another no one talks about.
