Has Beck already received the Michel Gondry treatment? I don't know. But, this vid just screams: been there, done that. Oh- in case you don't know, MG is the genius behind the Lego brick vid for The White Stripes' "Fell in Love with a Girl," a similarly colorful and rectanglicious vid for Massive Attack's sublime "Protection" which is a lot like this one, Cibo Matto's killer (in every sense of the word) "Sugar Water," and several amazing Bjork clips. He has a very distinctive style and that's why this video toes the line and... that's it. Ever wondered what "Protection" would have been like with a cast of one, if the building could walk, and if it were shot in black and white with a calmer camera? This song deserved better. And Gondry has done better: especially in Lucas's "Lucas with the Lid Off."
